Palotus believes in single use compostable food packaging. We have partnered with global innovators in compostable food packaging.
After 4 years of development work and trials, we are now able to provide the whole Compostable film solution.
There is only one machine capable of high speed sealing that rivals BOPP films. This is critical for high speed packing operations and to contain the cost increases through the transition to compostable films.
Our solution can wrap punnetised or tray packed fruits & vegetables, but can also transition trayless packs.

To achieve AS5810 certified compostable certification, packaging must score highly in the 'worm survival' test where the packaging in its final form must not cause the death of worms in a compost environment. This means no toxic inks, glues, bleaches or other contaminants.
The raw material in fibrous packaging also needs to come from a source that does not use synthetic or genetic modified chemicals such as organophosphates. These herbicides and pesticides will also cause worm death in compost facilities.
Palotus is working to further advance our previous work moving towards compostable food packaging including certified compostable fibre packaging and compostable clear films that do not contain fossil ingredients.
Our longer term objectives are to provide food safe packaging. As the industry has transitioned from plastic to fibre, we are introducing new opportunities for pathogen incursion and our work is to address this at a raw material level rather than via laminates or additives.

Organic certification means that scientific innovations in agriculture have to be re-evaluated for compliance to organic regulations. In some cases, such as synthetic chemicals, we simply will not use them. New science is needed to develop innovation that supports sustainability, efficiency and integrity of the food system of the future.
Palotus Biotech is developing new test methods to protect the integrity of organic certification. New technology is now revealing new ways to quickly and efficiently, and scientifically endorse organic credentials of organic food. We see a future where fraud cannot co-exist in the certified organic supply chain.
